Fuetterer entered into the realm of heaven on Monday, November 11, 2013 at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana in Columbus. Walter G. Fuetterer, Jr. was born May 1, 1934, in Chicago, Illinois, to Luella (Mott) and Walter George Fuetterer, Sr. He graduated from Proviso High School in Maywood, Illinois, in 1952. He and Eva Mae Thompson were united by marriage on May 22, 1954 in West Lafayette, Indiana. While attending Purdue University, he was a commissioned ROTC graduate and served eight years. During active duty, he was stationed at Fort George Meade and Aberdeen Proving Ground Maryland, where he was honorably discharged after being promoted to captain in the Ordinance Corps. He graduated from Purdue with a BSME in 1956, and joined Cummins Engine Company as a Product Engineer the same year. He was promoted first to Assistant Chief Engineer and later as On-Highway Product Manager, retiring from the company in 1987. He then served as plant manager for Meadows Metal Products, followed by employment as a manufacturing consultant for both Columbus Container and Midwest Art Metal. During 20 of his 49 years of employment, he was a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers, seated as a member of both the Oil Seal and Editorial committees and eventually serving as chairman of the Vee Belt Committee. Furthermore, he served on the National Nominating Committee and was a member of the Indianapolis Society of Automotive Engineers, where he subsequently served on the board and ultimately chaired the group. As an adult leader in scouting (serving as a cub master, scoutmaster, and chairman of adult scout training), he taught boys how to hike, camp and canoe while on several trips to the Smokey Mountains, Current River, and Philmont Scout Ranch. These efforts earned him honors as a Wood Badge graduate and Order of the Arrow and Silver Beaver awards. He was an active member of the JayCees, Kiwanis, and served as both a member and president of the Purdue Alumni Club of Bartholomew County, the Masonic High 12 Club, Master Mason St. John's Lodge 20, and the Jefferson Park Co-Owners Association. Additionally, he held a very deep faith in God and was active in the North Christian Church, including Chair of the Deacons, Trustees, Elders and Congregation. He had a passion for golf and reading. He was a loving and dedicated son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. 1. Dear Mike, Kathy and family: I truly appreciate that I had the great pleasure of golfing with Mr. Fuetterer a few times in AZ with Mike. It was nice spending time with a true Indiana resident (I won’t say Hoosier!) and fellow Purdue alum (this should explain the above). One thing I can say about Mr. Fuetterer was that he raised a dang good son in Mike. I love Mike like the older brother I never had. Mike and his wife Kathy would do anything for their friends. And I know because my wife and I turned an overnight stay at their house when we were moving out of AZ a few years back into a few WEEK stay…and we all had so much fun! We could not have better friends and that is a direct reflection of how their parents raised them. No doubt a great loss for the family and our most sincere condolences. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Greg and Diane Smith Chicago, IL

  2. Dear Long-time friend Eva. Please know that you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. Sorry I can’t make calling or service. Hope I can see you soon. Til then, Love and Prayers.

  3. Wally was a part of my life for as long as I can remember, a role model, mentor, and a true inspiration, and, ultimately, as I grew up, a friend. Even as I moved on and away with my life, I knew, if needed, he would be there. He will be missed by many… With sympathy and condolences, Jim (II) Garrett

  4. Our deepest sympathy to you Eva Mae and your family. Our thoughts are with you at this time. Sincerely, John & Bobbie Walker

  5. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I enjoyed the time I was able to spend with Walter as his nurse while he was here at Columbus Regional Health. I was touched by the amount of love and compassion your family has for one another. God Bless

  6. What a great person. I am fortunate to have known and worked with Wally for over twenty years. I will miss him. Really sorry for your loss.
