Walter Loester Powell April 22, 1922 - September 17, 2010 Walter Loester Powell, 88, of Indiana Avenue, died at 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17, 2010, at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility. Walter was born in Ellettsville on April 22, 1922, the son of Clarence O. and Mildred Evelyn Sharp Powell. He married Violet M. Oliver on Oct. 2, 1943 and she survives. He founded Columbus Linoleum Company in January of 1949 and retired in 1982. He was a member of Memorial Baptist Church in Columbus. He loved hunting, fishing, camping and traveling. In addition to his wife, Walter is survived by sons, Michael Powell of Columbus and James (Beth) Powell of N.C.; a daughter, Bonita (John) Hall of Columbus; grandchildren, Chris and Matt Powell, Troy Hall and Jason Powell; a step granddaughter, Melissa Jacques; 11 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Betty Sego of Indianapolis. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral Information FUNERAL: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at the Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with the Revs. Donald C. Humphrey and Jimmy Collins officiating. VISITATION: 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home and from 9:30 a.m. until service time Tuesday. ENTOMBMENT: Garland Brook Cemetery Mausoleum.
