Wayne M. Crippen, 96, of Chapel Drive, died at 1:36 a.m. February 17, 2020, at Silver Oaks Health Campus. Wayne was born February 24, 1923, in Columbus, the son of John R. and Sarah Bolander Crippen. He married Mary Jane Newman September 1, 1967. In 1992 he retired from Cummins Engine Company. Wayne was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Diesel Workers Union, CREAK Club, American Legion and Mill Race Center. He loved sports, especially the Cincinnati Reds, the Chicago Cubs and the Indianapolis Colts. He also enjoyed woodworking, fishing and watching NASCAR. The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, February 20, 2020, at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with the Rev. Howard Boles officiating. Calling will be 11 a.m. until the time of service Thursday. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery with military honors presented by the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard. Memorials may be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility in memory of Wayne. Survivors include his wife, Mary Jane; son, John (Dottye) Crippen of Dugger, Indiana, and daughters, Ginger Luetke of Hope and Janice Crippen of Columbus; a sister, Phyllis Mouser of Columbus; grandchildren, Emily Hall, Terry Williams and Jeff Petro; several great and great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Dean Crippen and Kenneth Crippen and sisters, Thelma Enochs and Maryleen Collins; and a grandson, Todd Petro. The family would like to thank Our Hospice of South Central Indiana and Silver Oaks for the excellent care given to Wayne.
