SERVICES: A private family service was held in Garland Brook Cemetery. MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to The Love Chapel, a local food bank, located at 311 Center St. Columbus, IN 47201. Dean Asher, 82, of Columbus, passed away on Wednesday, June 25, 2014 of a hemorrhagic stroke at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. Born in Bartholomew County, Indiana on January 2, 1932, he was the fourth of five children born to the late Jesse and Zelma (Jackson) Asher. He wed Maddline "Mickie" Asher on May 29, 1958 in Taylorsville. Drafted into the Marine Corps in 1952, he was a proud veteran of the Korean War. Following his tour in the service, he returned to Golden Foundry where he had first started working in 1950, before eventually retiring in 1997. A loving friend and devoted family man, he never missed an opportunity to lend a helping hand. What he lacked in formal education he more than made up for with his wisdom, compassion and hard work. Aside from his loving wife of 56 years, Mickie, he is survived by one daughter, Marcie (Vint) Moore of Indianapolis; son, Jack Asher, of Greenville, South Carolina; two grandsons, Joshua Asher and Logan Moore; as well as one great-grandson, Wyatt Asher.
