William "Bill" P. Hill May 04, 1930 - February 16, 2010 William P. "Bill" Hill, 79, of Winter Haven, Fla., formerly of Columbus, died at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2010, at Tampa General Hospital in Florida. Mr. Hill, an Army veteran, worked on Columbus Police Department for 20 years, retiring as a captain. He was proud to be one of the first motorcycle policemen in Columbus. He also worked for and retired from Bartholomew County Beverage. He was a member of New Hope Christian Church and the Moose Lodge and a lifetime member of the American Legion and Fraternal Order of Police. He enjoyed many sports, especially auto racing. Mr. Hill was a kind and giving man who was loved by many. Born in Columbus May 4, 1930, Mr. Hill was the son of Robert and Blanche Short Hill. He married Shirley "Faye" Johnson June 28, 2008. She survives. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Tina Hill. Other survivors include a daughter, Dot AmRhein of Columbus; grandchildren, Billy (Beth) Stott of Columbus, Stacey (Doug) Southern of Westport and Mike (Deanna "D.D.") Stott of Columbus; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; a brother, Bob Hill; and a grandchild, Jackie Stott. Funeral Information FUNERAL: 10 a.m. Monday at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with the Rev. John Sichting officiating. CALLING: 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. until service time Monday BURIAL: Garland Brook Cemetery Donations Information Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association.
