William E. Cortner July 19, 1921 - September 15, 2006 William E. Cortner, 85, of East Indiana 46 died at 9:20 a.m. Friday, Sept. 15, 2006, in Columbus. Mr. Cortner worked at Arvin Industries for 42 years, then, after retiring, worked at Senior Products for 10 years. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, a member of Bethel Baptist Church and the American Legion, and a 50-year member of St. Johns Masonic Lodge No. 20. He also coached Little League Baseball for 10 years. Born in Bartholomew July 19, 1921, Mr. Cortner was the son of Harry and Mattie Cortner. He married Helen E. Meyer April 2, 1976. Survivors include his wife; a son, Gary J. Cortner of Grosse Pointe, Mich.; a stepson, Larry Arnholt of Yelm, Wash.; daughters, Debbi Gill of Nineveh and Denise Little of Columbus; stepdaughters, Connie Holland of Statesville, N.C., and Susan Hornback of Spindale, N.C.; a brother, Wayne Cortner of Flushing, Mich.; grandchildren, Walter Gill, Stacey Cavaletto, Jamie Fiest and Jonathan Little; stepgrandchildren, Rueben, Jesse and Jonah Stoner and Justin, Alisha and Micah Hornback; and great-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Blake and Ethan Cavaletto and Riley Chapello. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Rintha E. Webster Cortner on April 2, 1974. Funeral Information FUNERAL: 11 a.m. Monday, September 18, 2006 at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home. VISITATION: 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday and from 10 a.m. until service time Monday. BURIAL: Garland Brook Cemetery, with military graveside rites conducted by Bartholomew County veterans Color Guard.
