William G. Elwood

William G. “Bill” Elwood, 82, of Columbus, died at 1:55 a.m. November 10, 2016, at Silver Oaks Health Campus. Bill was born March 15, 1934, in New Castle, Indiana, the son of Marion Lee and Mollie Boone Elwood. He was a Vietnam War veteran, retiring as Senior Chief Petty Officer after 20 years of service in the United States Navy. After retiring from the military he was a real estate agent, Vice President of Lee's Inns of America Inc. and a facilities manager for Elwood Staffing. Bill was a member of First United Methodist Church and frequently visited Mill Race Center. He was a good son, brother, husband, father, uncle, grandfather and great-grandfather. Survivors include his daughters, Karen Chavis of Columbus and Janice Childers of Alabama; a brother, Dr. David Elwood and sister-in-law Ella Elwood of Columbus; grandchildren, Emily Salinas, Elizabeth Salinas, Ryan Chavis and Thomas Chavis; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Lura J. Elwood, September 3, 1999; second wife, Julie Dasher Elwood, July 5, 2006; son, David Lee Elwood; daughter, Brenda Salinas; brothers, Raymond Elwood and Riley Burchfield; and sister, Helen Haun.

Bill was a good friend, a truly inspiring man of God, and we know he will be missed by many! So thankful to the Lord that we all will be reunited one day!
