William R. McIntyre, 74, of Yellowwood Drive, died at 2:52 p.m. Sunday July 1, 2007, at Millers Merry Manor.
Mr. McIntyre lived his entire life in Bartholomew County. He graduated from State Street School in 1947 and from Columbus High School in 1951. He attended Franklin College before entering the Army where he served in the 33rd Field Artillery Battalion, First Infantry Division, which was known as the Bloody Red 1 during WWII.
He was employed at Irwin Union Bank for several years and later employed by First National Bank and Carrico Furniture as well as J.C. Penney at Greenwood Park Mall. He retired from McDonalds Restaurant in 1994. He was a member of St. Peters Lutheran Church.
He enjoyed movies, Columbus history and had a large Gone with the Wind memorabilia collection.
Mr. McIntyre was born Dec. 27, 1932 in Columbus, the son of Orville T. and Lillian Edwards McIntyre. He married Doris A. Nolting Sept. 14, 1968.
Survivors include his wife; cousins, Dennis West of Columbus, John Gilmore of Indianapolis, Nell Cole of Columbus, Tom McIntyre of Ohio and Joyce Pierce of Kansas City, Mo.
Funeral Information
FUNERAL: The funeral will be at noon Thursday July 5, 2007 at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Teike officiating.
VISITATION: Calling will be from 10 a.m. until service time Thursday July 5, 2007.
BURIAL: Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery with military graveside rites by the Bartholomew County Veterans Color Guard.
