Wilbert Glenn Carr, 93, of Columbus, died at his home surrounded by his family at 9:50 a.m. May 19, 2026. Wilbert was born on November 19, 1932 near Courtland, Indiana; the son of Frank Hyman Carr and Ebbie A. (Miller) Carr. He married Shirley Ann Gaffney on September 2, 1956.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and St. Johns Masonic Lodge #20.
Wilbert was a hardworking man who took great pride in his work throughout his life. He dedicated 34 years to Cummins Inc. before going on to own and operate his own real estate company, Central Realty. He later worked for DSI, followed by GECOM Corporation in Greensburg, and eventually found joy working in the Garden Center at Lowe’s, where he shared his knowledge of gardening and landscaping with others. Above all, Wilbert cherished spending time with his family and grandchildren, creating memories that will be treasured forever.
The funeral for Wilbert will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 22, 2026, at Jewell-Rittman Funeral Service and Crematory, with Pastor Howard Boles officiating. Visitation will take place Thursday, May 21, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., at the funeral home, and again Friday morning from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Flat Rock Baptist Cemetery with military rites performed by Bartholomew County Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to First United Methodist Church.
Wilbert is survived by his wife, Shirley Carr; sons, Jeffrey (Sharon) Carr and Michael (Michael Spears) Carr; grandchildren, Corey (Kristen) Carr, Jessica (Dustin) Arp, Nakyia (Ryan) Turner, Courtney (Jacob) Westgerdes, Keenan Carr; great-grandchildren, Cameron Carr, Hayden Carr, Mattix Carr, Carter Brickett, Hunter Marchbank, Cade Arp, Jailey Schoonover, Shailynn Turner, Laityn Turner; Ellie Westgerdes, Joey Westgerdes, and Waylon Westgerdes; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Ebbie Carr; son, Todd Anthony Carr; Sister, Mary Lois (Bob) Wise; brothers, Frank (Jeannie) Carr Jr., William (Katherine) Carr, Earl (Mary Lou) Carr, and Everett (Jay) Carr; sisters, Violet (Earl) Simpson and Ann (Lloyd) Craig; and great-grandsons, Cashton Westgerdes and Trace Wilbert Westgerdes.
Services were entrusted to Jewell-Rittman Funeral Service and Crematory.
