Barbara J. Rohner, a longtime resident of Columbus, Indiana, died peacefully after a brief illness on October 13, 2026, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana. She was 95 years old.
Born on November 1, 1930, in Sullivan, Indiana, Barbara was the daughter of the late Lester and Chloe (Knew) Haney. On December 2, 1949, she married the Rev. Donald R. Rohner, with whom she shared a lifetime of devotion until his passing on January 1, 2001.

The consummate preacher’s wife, Barbara’s true vocation was her family and her faith, which remained devout from an early age. She was renowned for her radiant smile, her beautiful white hair, and her extraordinary hospitality. An exceptional cook and hostess, she delighted family and friends with her famous lasagna, cheesecakes, and German Chocolate Cake. Her beautifully crafted Christmas cookies were a holiday tradition, always adored and quickly devoured by those she loved.

In addition to her life at home, Barbara worked briefly for Sears and Centra Credit Union before returning to her favorite role: caring for her grandchildren. In her retirement years and following her husband’s passing, she brought her warm spirit to several communities, residing at Presidential Park, Four Seasons, Miller’s Merry Manor in Hope, and finally The Belmont, making many cherished friends along the way.

Barbara was a member of Flintwood Wesleyan Church.

Barbara was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Donald, and her siblings: Betty, Peggy, Jimmy, Rebecca, Jerry, and Johnny.

Her legacy of love lives on through her surviving family, including her daughters, Vickie (Andy) Osman and Karen (Dale) Corby; her sister, Marsha Cottom; her grandchildren, E. Brooke Taylor, Rudy (Starr) Olivo, and Andrea Osman; and her great-grandchildren, Danielle, Raymond, Miriam, Walker, and Esther.

Public services will not be observed. The family will gather privately on Thursday, October 15, 2026, for a graveside service at Garland Brook Cemetery, where Barbara will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband. Jewell-Rittman Funeral Service & Crematory is honored to serve the Rohner family.

  1. Rev. Donald Rohner & wife, Barbara, Vicki & Karen, were friends from way back when I went to Church Camp at Orleans, IN. Where Rev. Rohner Preached and lead me to the Lord. I then worked with Barbara at Centra Credit Union. Went to school with Vicki and Karen. I will see Rev Don & Barbara again one day, on the Streets in Glory.
