Brenda Sue Defler, 64, of Columbus, passed away Tuesday, April 28, 2026 at Majestic Care of No. Vernon. Brenda was born in Columbus, IN on February 26, 1962 to Norman Sharp and Janet Meek Sharp. She married John P. Defler on January 4, 2001.

Brenda graduating from South Decatur County High School. In 2001, Brenda served as an investigator for Adult Protective Services, where she was deeply compassionate and dedicated to those she helped, forming meaningful connections with her clients.

She found joy in sewing and gardening, but above all, she treasured the time she spent with her family. Her grandchildren held an especially cherished place in her heart.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, May 8, 2026 at Jewell-Rittman Funeral Service & Crematory with Pastor Carl Greene officiating. Calling hours will be from 4 p.m. until service time on Friday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association through the funeral home.

Survivors include her children, Richard “Leon” Fippen of No. Vernon, IN, Denise (Jason) Jones of Seymour, IN, Levi Easler of Seymour, IN, and Logan (Krista) Easler of Columbus, IN; grandchildren, Jadon, Jacob and Jennifer Jones, Liam, Harley, Hayven and Felix Easler; brothers, Roger (Natalie) Sharp, Doug (Joan) Sharp and Greg (Nancy) Sharp; sisters, Donita (Dave) Addington and Robin (Randy) Lapidus.

Brenda was preceded in death by her parents, Norman and Janet Sharp; husband, John Defler, a brother, Charles Sharp.

  1. Brenda and John were a true blessing to our community, they helped so many people and were Loved by many . Heaven gained two beautiful angels.

  2. Brenda and I shared so many memories, a lot of laughter and tears. I will deeply miss you my friend, but I know this is not the end, Heavens gain, Earthly loss.

  3. We knew Brenda through Wilson Chapel, Church, and worked with her on different things with that Church. May God bless her family as they are going through this difficult time know that they are in our thoughts hearts and prayers.
