Clark Konold Ahrens, 83, of Columbus, passed away on Tuesday, June 9th, 2026 and The Belmont Nursing Facility. Clark K. Ahrens was born in Evansville, Indiana on March 18th, 1943 to Hetty and Alvin Ahrens.

He attended Tell City High School, Class of 61’ in Tell City, Indiana. Clark was a gifted athlete in both football and basketball, playing for the legendary Hall of Fame Coach, Gunner Wyman and was a state qualifier that year with the Tell City Marksmen.

Upon graduating, Clark was accepted to Purdue University, entering into their demanding Mechanical Engineering program and was a charter member of the Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity in which he remained active throughout his life.

After graduating in 1965, he was offered an opportunity with Cummins Engine Company where he thrived and eventually became the General Manager of the Worldwide Bus Business. During his tenure at Cummins, Clark was a prominent figure in the development and roll-out of high-performance engines for the industry. He played a key role in advocating for alternatively fueled engines, helping to modernize transit fleets across North America. During this time, he retired from Cummins after 36 years of dedicated service and finished his career as a Regional Sales Manager for Gillig Corporation.

Clark married Judith Hyer in 1968 and together they shared one son, Tyler William Ahrens. In 1990, he married Julia Lancaster and became Pops/ Clarkie to an extended family with whom he shared immense joy and happiness.

Settling back on Grandview Lake (his happy place), Clark enjoyed many, many years of family events, 4th of Julys and Christmases with his loving family. Clark functioned as the supreme leader of fun for all lucky enough to be in his presence.

Sadly, Clark lost the love of his life, his beloved Julia, in 2023. She was his compass, his travel companion, and most importantly, his heart.

He is survived by his sister Marcia Kreig, son Tyler Ahrens and wife Adri, Andy Lancaster and wife Brenda, Mitch Lancaster and wife Nona and daughter Angie Lancaster and husband Mike Yorchak. In addition, he is survived by his beloved niece, Ahren, and nephew Karl. His grandchildren Avery, Harper and Macy Ahrens, Andrew, Jojo and Lacey Lancaster, Nick, Trent and Luke Lancaster and Justin Gardner.

Clark lived a wonderful, spanning life that should be coveted and he will be greatly missed by all.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Clarke was a great friend, vacation buddy and part of our family. We loved him dearly, and feel great loss of the passing of our dear friend.
I know he is at peace and rejoicing with his beloved Julia “Jules” as he called her.
I hope you and Julia are on the beach enjoying a great view.

  2. It was always a pleasure to see Clark at our local Purdue Club events as well as at Purdue Football games. Our season tickets were close enough to guarantee a friendly wave at every game. He will be missed.

  3. Fairwell, Clark, You were a great friend and a fellow Purdue grad. We always enjoyed getting together with you and Jules in Florida your true happy place. I have told the story many times about your famous power steering hose on your BMW. It took a true Purdue engineer to figure out the BMW parts catalog was not up to Cummins Level, or down to their level on prices. I always loved sharing your story…$$$
May your power steering always work now at Cummins prices… Drive ON!

  4. My heartfelt condolences to the family of Clark Ahrens whom I had the pleasure to know and work with for many years at Cummins Engine Company. Clark was THE expert on propulsion systems for buses and was always willing to share his knowledge with others. He was helpful and supported me in my program manager’s role, and he was always fun to be with

    Respectfully submitted

  5. Much love to Marcia and Tyler and all of Clark’s family and friends. Cousin Clark was easy to love. We are all very fortunate to have had him in our lives. All memories of him are happy ones. Feels comforting to know that he is in Heaven with Julia and Uncle Al and Aunt Hetty and my dad, Jasper Esarey Konold. Clark’s “Uncle Jack” love Clark dearly. When both were in the same room, they were “the life of the party.” All present just sat back and enjoyed the show.

  6. Sending tons of prayers to Marcia,Tyler,
extended family and friends. I’m so very grateful that our cousin Clark’s business travels brought him to the Camelback Inn in Phoenix many years ago. Out of the blue he called and invited me and my husband to the resort for a drink…it was then when we met Jules. They checked out of the hotel the next day and stayed with us…we had a wonderful time together and this was the start of really getting to know our ‘larger than life’ cousin Clark. He had a big heart and was so much fun. Keep em’ laughing cuz. Until we meet again……💜

  7. I will always treasure the memories of Clark and Julie on Grandview Lake. They would come over and hangout with my parents on lazy summer afternoons. My children adored them as they always gave them special attention. Clark would always wave from his riding mower 😊
