Dallas R. Eggleston

Dallas R. Eggleston, 71, of Elizabethtown, IN, passed away Wednesday, August 26, 2026 at IU Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis, IN. Dallas was born in Columbus, IN on June 16, 1955 to Robert C. Eggleston and Carolyn P. Berry Eggleston. He married Patricia “Patty” D. Cooper on September 22, 1973.

Dallas graduated from Columbus High School in 1973, and from an early age he was known for his strong work ethic, dependable nature, and practical spirit.

He devoted 30 years of service to Cummins Engine Company before retiring, and he was respected for his commitment, reliability, and pride in doing a job well. Dallas continued to serve his community through his work as the owner and operator of Eggleston’s Sharp All Shop, which he ran for 35 years. Through that business, he built lasting relationships and became known for his craftsmanship, his attention to detail, and his willingness to help others.

Beyond his work, Dallas found great enjoyment in the simple and meaningful things in life. He enjoyed woodworking and took satisfaction in creating with his hands. He also had a lifelong interest in collecting watches, appreciating both their craftsmanship and the stories they carried. These hobbies reflected his patience, curiosity, and appreciation for quality and tradition.

Most of all, Dallas loved spending time with his family. He especially cherished his grandchildren, and those moments brought him great joy. He was a loving presence in their lives, and his family will remember him for his warmth, his steady support, and the genuine interest he showed in their lives and accomplishments. His love for family was evident in all that he did, and it remained one of the most important parts of his life.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, August 29, 2026 at Jewell-Rittman Funeral Service & Crematory with Pastor Gary Haines officiating. Calling hours will be from 2 p.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.

Survivors include his wife, Patty Eggleston; mother, Carolyn Eggleston; daughter, Christy (Brett) Miller of Elizabethtown, IN; grandchildren, Katrina (Kasey) Holley, Benjamin Amburgey; great grandchildren, Kaden Plaster, Izabella Holley, Alexandra Plaster and Kamden Holley; nephew, Marc Eggleston and a niece, Jess Pike.

Dallas was preceded in death by his father, Robert C. Eggleston; son, Matthew R. Eggleston; brother, Jeffrey Eggleston and a sister, Terri Eggleston.
