Gary Donald Morrow, a beloved husband and father passed away peacefully on May 27, 2026. He was born on June 4, 1950 in Albany, New York to the late Sydney and Dorothy Morrow.
Gary received a bachelor of science degree in ceramic engineering from Alfred University and a MS in ceramic engineering from the University of Illinois where he met his wife of 51 years, Mary. He worked for 12 years at Republic Steel then LTV Steel in Cleveland as a research engineer and won much acclaim for his research in refractories. He later worked as a systems analyst at Cummins in Columbus, Indiana and Eli Lilly in Indianapolis.
Gary was a wonderful husband and father who was devoted to his family. He participated in the Columbus Community as a member of the Optimist Club and a Cub Scout leader, a tradition which he carried on from his family.
Gary was a passionate follower of sports, especially the Fighting Illini, the Cleveland Browns, and his adopted baseball team, the Chicago White Sox. However, he never gave up his love for the New York Yankees, his childhood team.
Along with his wife Mary, he coached Michael and Daniel’s youth baseball through the Columbus Parks and Rec.
Gary was a proud veteran who served eight years in the Army Reserves.
He is survived by his wife, Mary and sons Michael and Daniel, his brothers, Keith (late Kathleen), Wayne (Lynn) and Earl (Ivy). He is also survived by his sisters-in-laws (Lisa), Rose (Bob), Sherry (Bruce) and Jean (late Brian).
He had many loving nieces and nephews, Robert Jr. (Jenn) Jennifer (Toi), Samuel (Natalie), Laura (Tim), David (Erin) and Adam (Brittany), Matt, (Samantha) Paul, Melinda, (Matt) Elizabeth, Colleen, and Alex, Alex, Chelsea, Piper, Ethan. Daphne and Juniper were his great nieces and nephews along with Robert and Shannon, Lexi, Drake and Penny.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 9, 2026 at Jewell-Rittman Funeral Service & Crematory, led by Paula Brummett and Leslie Reuter. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time at 1 p.m. at the funeral home on Tuesday. Burial will be held at Garland Brook Cemetery with military honors provided by the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Gary’s name to the American Cancer Society for research to end Esophageal Cancer.
