Jimmy Ray Fields

Jimmy Ray Fields passed from this life July 30, 2026 at Hospice Inpatient Facility. Jimmy was born in Columbus on January 21, 1952 to Stanley and Doris (Ballard) Fields. Jimmy loved being a father and grandfather. His children Rae and Donnie, were to him, his greatest accomplishment in life.

Jimmy retired from Golden Castings and went on to be successful in renewable metals. Jimmy was resourceful at a young age. He delivered the morning paper on his bike and also rode his bike to Bush’s Market with his buddies to pick produce. As a teenager, Jimmy worked at the Fruit Market on State Street. Jimmy remained close to his childhood friends, Eddie and Luretta. He spoke often of his time growing up in East Columbus with love and pride.

Jimmy had the gift of humor, he had a sweet way of poking fun and making people laugh. Family was important to him. After his Mother passed, he was a constant companion to his Dad. They were the best of friends and frequently went to auctions in search of lawn mowers, bicycles, or any other items they could fix up and resell. They also enjoyed fishing together and drives in the country to spot wildlife. These jaunts usually ended with a cheeseburger at The Brick. Jimmy was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles where he enjoyed playing cards with friends and Bingo with his sisters…O 66 will be stamped in their hearts forever and will always make them laugh.

Jimmy lived at Vivera Assisted Living for the past 3 years and considered it home. He was loved by many and will be missed. His friend Ronnie checked on him daily and drove him to appointments or wherever he needed to go. Jimmy’s family sends a big hug and thank you to Ronnie and all of the Vivera staff for their loving and compassionate care.

Although our hearts are broken and we will miss him terribly, we know he’s finally at peace after a long illness. Jimmy was a believer in Jesus Christ and was baptized two years ago. We know he is reunited with our mom and dad, who he missed dearly, along with many friends and family who had gone before him. Jimmy didn’t want to leave us, but he knew it was coming. He made his final wishes known to us, his sisters, in a note, signing off with “I’ll see you on the other side”. We love you Brother!

Jimmy is preceded in death by his parents, Doris and Stanley and brother in-law Steve Michaels. Jimmy is survived by his children, Rae (Richard) Bryant, and Donnie (Gabie) Fields, grandchildren Devin Fields and Hannah Bryant, sisters, Susan Michaels, Virginia (Russ) Dixon, Sheila Davis, brother Troy Fields, several nieces and nephews, and many cousins.

The family extends their warmest thanks to the staff at Hospice Inpatient Facility for their kind and dignified care.

Final arrangements have been entrusted to Jewell Rittman Funeral Home. Receiving of family and friends will be held at Jewell Rittman on Tuesday, August 4th from 10am to 12pm with the funeral service at 12 and burial at Garland Brook.  Jimmy’s cousin, Larry Fields, will officiate.
