Joyce S. Hamblin, 93, of Columbus, Indiana, passed away July 22, 2026 at Traditions of Columbus. Joyce was born in Geneva, IL on July 29, 1932 to Arthur Lassman and Juanita Faye Watkins Lassman. She was married to Wilfred “Bill” Shedd with whom she had a son and daughter. She divorced and remarried Robert “Bob” Hamblin.
Joyce valued education and pursued it with determination. She earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin and later completed her master’s degree at Northwestern University. Her academic achievements reflected both her discipline and her belief in the importance of lifelong learning. To that end, she was a member of PEO, a women’s organization with the mission to promote women’s education.
In her professional life, Joyce retired from Lincoln National Life Insurance Company after years of dedicated service. She was respected for her reliability, her strong work ethic, and her thoughtful approach to her responsibilities. She valued volunteering and gave freely of her time over many years.
After retirement, Joyce moved to Estes Park, CO where she enjoyed being in and around Rocky Mountain National Park. She was an enthusiast of nature and appreciated the peace, beauty, and renewal that came from spending time outside. She enjoyed walking her dog Salem, hiking, cross country skiing and traveling the country in her RV.
Per Joyce’s request, cremation is planned. Interment will be held at the Presbyterian Community Church of the Rockies Columbarium, Estes Park, CO at a later date.
Survivors include her son, Frederick “Rick” (Philippa) Shedd of Columbus, IN; brother, Bruce (Bonnie) Lassman of Philadelphia, PA; grandchildren, Kyle (Rachel) Shedd, Taylor (Hillary) Shedd, Nicholas (Emily Nice) Shedd, Robbie Byron and Alex Byron; great-grandchildren, Noelle, Georganne, and Jonah Shedd.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur, and Juanita Lassman; husbands, Bill Shedd, and Bob Hamblin; daughter, Leanne Byron; and brother, Arthur “Lee” Lassman.
The family would like to thank the staff at Traditions of Columbus and Our Hospice for their outstanding and compassionate care. A Celebration of Life will be held at Traditions of Columbus on August 13, 2026, from 1:00 until 3:00 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to P.E.O International, ELF Fund, 3700 Grand Avenue, Des Moines, IA 50312.
