Marilyn J. Zink

September 19, 1936 ~ June 5, 2026

Born in: New Albany , Indiana
Resided in: Columbus, Indiana

Marilyn J. Zink went to her heavenly Father on June 5, 2026 at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana’s facility in Columbus. She was born on September 19, 1936 to Fred C and Mona Williams Atkins in New Albany, IN, the third of six children. She graduated from New Albany High School and worked in Louisville until marrying Charles Zink on January 25, 1958 in Salem, IN. She and Charles were married for 68 years. Once in Columbus she worked for the telephone company as a switchboard operator until becoming a mother in 1959.

Marilyn regarded her duties as a homemaker as her career–she maintained an exceptionally clean and orderly home. She did all she could to support Charles and give her children a good start in life, teaching hard work and giving one’s best to any task. Marilyn was a dedicated member of Lakeview Church of Christ (Mckinley Ave church/10th St Church of Christ) for almost 70 years, although she had been homebound for the last 7 or 8 years. To earn money for extras such as orthodontic treatment, she babysat in her home and cleaned houses. She later worked for her brother at the Columbus GNC store, and was always interested in hearing of the problems that customers had and in helping them with those. She enjoyed reading, shopping, cooking and baking as long as she was able. She loved birds, vibrant colors and was artistically talented. She had wonderful taste. She had a spunky personality and attracted teasing; not only could she take it, but she dished it out.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Ronald Atkins, sister Joan Bruner, sister Sue Ellen Thacker and grandson Winston Zink. Survivors include her beloved husband, Charles Zink; daughters, Lori (David) Green, Jennifer Zink of Columbus, Jill (Brad) Beckemeyer of Gnaw Bone IN, and Marcie Davis of Indianapolis; brothers, Jim (Audra) Atkins and David Atkins; grandchildren, Abby Green, Ryan Green, and Sabrina Brown; great-grandchildren, Faith and Hope Zink, along with nieces and nephews.

We will honor Marilyn’s life and the impact she had on her loved ones at a Celebration of Life at Jewell-Rittman Funeral Service & Crematory on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at 1:00 PM, allowing family and friends to come together to share stories, love, and remembrance. Visitation will take place at the funeral prior to the service, beginning at 11:00 a.m. Cremation will follow services, and a private burial will be in the Flat Rock Baptist Cemetery at a later date.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Marilyn was one of a kind. She was a second mom to me for many years. One thing I remember is her laugh. I didn’t witness it a lot, but when she did, it was amazing. I know she will be missed dearly by many. Prayers for the family.

  2. Sending love and prayers to the whole Zink family. Marilyn was a wonderful example of a godly woman and I know she will be greatly missed 😞 but she has left her family with the greatest blessing of all and that is knowing that those who also die in Christ will be able to see her again one day in heaven 🙏 Until then Marilyn….

  3. Miss Marilyn was a wonderful friend to my grandmother, and always so kind, affectionate, and nurturing to me. I look forward to seeing her again someday with our Savior!
