Oliver Ross Holder, Jr., known to family and friends as Ross, passed away on June 30, 2026, in Indianapolis, Indiana, at the age of 68.
Ross was born on August 19, 1957, in San Diego, California, and he carried with him throughout his life the steady spirit, resilience, and warmth that came to define him. He lived a life marked by hard work, devotion to family, and the quiet dignity of a man who took pride in doing his best each day. Those who knew him will remember his dependable nature, his straightforward manner, and the kindness he showed to the people around him.
For many years, Ross worked as an over-the-road truck driver, a profession that suited his strong work ethic and his willingness to meet life’s demands head-on. He understood the value of long hours, responsibility, and perseverance, and he approached his work with commitment and pride. His career on the road reflected not only his dedication, but also his ability to adapt, endure, and keep moving forward no matter the distance or difficulty.
Ross was a devoted husband to Janie L. DeLong Holder, and their life together was built on love, companionship, and shared memories that will be treasured always. He was a father to Derrick Ross Holder and his wife, Kristie, and to Dara Michelle Holder. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews, and his grandchildren, Krislynn and Ian. Additional survivors include his brother, Jason, and his sister, Michelle. He was a beloved family member whose presence brought strength and comfort to those closest to him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver Ross Holder Sr. and Ruth Holder; brothers, Chris and Larry Holder and a sister Theresa Holder, whose memory remained an important part of his life. Ross carried forward the values they instilled in him, and those values were reflected in the way he lived, worked, and cared for others. His family will remember him not only for the roles he held, but for the character he displayed in everyday life.
Ross leaves behind a legacy of love, perseverance, and devotion. He will be remembered for his steady presence, his hardworking nature, and the deep affection he held for his family. Though his passing leaves a profound emptiness, the memories he created and the example he set will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Ross requested that his passing be observed with a quite reverence. No services are scheduled at this time. Arrangements have been entrusted to Jewell-Rittman Funeral Service and Crematory.
