Sue D. Harshman

Sue Harshman, 79, of Columbus, Indiana, passed peacefully on Saturday, September 26, 2026. She was born in Columbus on December 31, 1946, to Hubert and Irene (Bryant) Fields.

Sue was a devoted mother, loving grandmother, and cherished friend. She dedicated her life to caring for her family and bringing joy to those around her. Sue was a member of Columbus Baptist Church for more than 30 years and a faithful volunteer. Whenever there was something happening at the church, Sue could always be counted on to lend a helping hand.

Sue had a true gift for cooking and took great pride in preparing food for others. She especially enjoyed participating in the church’s annual Thanksgiving “Feed the Flock” dinner. She loved exploring flea markets, doing crossword puzzles, relaxing in the sunshine, and celebrating Christmas. One of her most treasured traditions was making homemade candies from scratch and sharing them with family and friends during the holidays and making homemade potato soup for her grandson Jeremy.

Her grandchildren held a special place in her heart and brought her countless moments of happiness. Sue was a proud grandmother to four grandchildren and treasured every moment spent with them.

Sue is survived by her children, Tonya (William) Moore and Edward Harshman; her siblings, David (Fran) Fields, Brenda Thompson, Kathy (Rodger) Southern, Robin (John) Greulich, and Crystal Baker; and her grandchildren, Aaron Cochran, Jeremy Blair, Dylan Julie, and Maleah Cox.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Hubert and Irene Fields; her son, Tommy Harshman; and her brothers, H. Wayne Fields and Timothy Fields.

Sue will be remembered for her generous heart, helping hands, love of family, and the sweetness she brought into the lives of others. She was a beloved sister, mother, grandmother, and friend, and her presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, October 5, 2026, at Jewell-Rittman Funeral Service & Crematory. Calling hours will be held from 11 a.m. until the time of service Monday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Garland Brook Cemetery.
